On Sunday, I was lucky enough to be able to participate in the Color Run Boston on behalf of Kohl’s! I’m part of this awesome blogger group, and they created a Kohl’s team – Team #Yes2You – for us to be a part of. That meant I got a free entry to the race, and so did a fitness friend of my choice!
I reached out to my friend Rachael, a personal trainer blogging over at Rachel Novello Fitness. Rachael and I had never actually met in person before the race, but I knew she was local and we had connected previously on facebook. She jumped at the chance of participating with me, so off we went and met up at Gillette Stadium (not exactly “Boston” but I like that the race is outside of the city – easier to get to and easier for parking) on Sunday morning. Both our hubbies and kids came along too!
Last year, I did this race as well but it was held in October. It was kind of funny to look back at my post from last year and see photos with my very little baby bump. And then compare it to this year with this adorable little guy. {PS – I didn’t run with him but do you like how the color still got all over his face? It looks like he ate a blue slushie…}
The race started at 10am with rolling waves, which was a little later than last year’s 8-9am start. I was happy about that, because a) we are living further away from Patriot Place now, and b) everything is slower moving in the morning when trying to get out the door with the baby.
Luckily Rachael had gone down earlier in the week to pick up our packets, so we didn’t have to wait in line for registration or anything. We just got there a few minutes before the start time and hopped right into the starting corral.
The run was awesome – if I’m remembering correctly, I think it was the same course as last year so it was slightly shorter than a full 5K. My guess is somewhere in the range of 2.5 to 2.75 miles, but I didn’t have my watch on. The course had great music playing throughout it and tons of entertainment in terms of people watching. {I especially appreciated the man dressed in a wedding dress.}
They had more color stations on the course this year, including a “shine” station with sparkle and glitter! Rachael and I also made sure to grab tons of great selfies along the way…
I like races like this mixed into my schedule, because it’s nice to have an event where you are not worried about time or anything. Instead, you’re just out there running for fun, enjoying the theme, and chatting with friends. Definitely a different feel than other races – I like having the combination of both competitive and non-competitive events.
Afterwards, we hung out for a few minutes to listen to the post-race music party and toss our color packets.
I was pretty excited when the DJ started playing jump on it. My hubby caught photos of me. I don’t know whether that is a good thing or a bad thing…
All in all, it was a great race! A perfect way to celebrate my 30th birthday weekend.
Disclosure: As I mentioned, I received a free entry to the Color Run from Kohl’s. I did not receive compensation for this post, and as always, all opinions are my own.

It was SUCH a great day! I am so glad to have been able to run it with you! I only wish I’d known it was your birthday BEFORE the race… I would have brought a balloon or crazy hat for you to wear! I hope we can run together again soon!
Haha I’m sure a crazy hat would’ve fit in perfectly at the race. I wish we would’ve grabbed a selfie with the guy dressed as a bride!
haha well I can tell, you’ve certainly got the moves! I have never done a color run before but it looks like fun. I just visited Boston for the first time in April and I loved everything about it! Your running pants are SUPER cute!
Hahaha, thank you Diane! Somewhere floating around the internet is a video of me at a post-race dance party a few years ago at a triathlon I did. I was able to win a wetsuit with those sweet moves 🙂
And those running pants were a Kohl’s clearance find – I was super excited to get them!!
P.S. HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY!!!
Thank you!!! 🙂
Looks like a fun time! Maybe I will give the Color Run a chance…it does make sense that mixing up fun and more “serious” races would be a good way to balance things out! It’s always fun when you can run with an old friend.
Exactly Janelle! It’s nice to sometimes just get out there, be a little crazy, and have fun – rather than worry about pace and PR’ing and whatnot.
Looks like fun – are you still finding glitter in places you didn’t know existed? Did #kohls give you a free fitbit?! wow!! Happy dirty thirty!! Thanks for linking up with #tuesdayTales
Haha – yes to still finding glitter everywhere & yes to the fitbit courtesy of Kohls! 🙂 Thanks for the birthday wishes as well.
I did my first color run last year with my son! It was a lot of fun. Hoping to do it with him again in the fall!! Love that they added a medal!
That’s awesome Sue! How old is your son? I saw so many kiddos at the race having a blast.
This sounds like a fun event! I must admit that I haven’t been interested in color runs as I think I would be too focused on my time and irritated by the distractions inherent in the race. I would do it with a friend or family member, though.
Yes – definitely not a race to do if you’re looking to run for time. But for a fun event that you can be silly with friends? Definitely!
